Ø DMES Curriculum Profile: The curriculum at our school went through several major and minor changes following schools policy in reviewing its curriculum. The three keys of knowledge; Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, are the three angles shaping the triangle within which the curriculum at our school have been selected. On the other hand, Practical and hands-on activities, skills, and modern technology are the three lines framing the process. The school’s curriculum covers all courses offered from KG to Grade 12 and keeps pace with students’ mental and physical development. Right from the very beginning and particularly, from KG 1, our child starts learning How to hold a pencil, a skill that at later stages develops into forming words and sentences. At a more developed stage our student learns how to express own opinions, compare and contrast, and research information. While, at the advanced stage of their schooling life, our students learn how to analyze, criticize and take a stand. As for Reading, at the early childhood stage, the child at DMES starts by distinguishing between prints and pictures, letters and words. Then, recognizes the different sounds that make up a word and identifies rhyming words. He is then taught how to Monitor own reading by applying strategies (e.g., sounding out letters; using context, grammar, and picture clues; and rereading) to determine meaning before he could lately Read aloud with expression and fluency, and silently for comprehension and understanding. Afterward, our student reads, comprehends, analyzes, and shows response towards unlimited variety of texts ranging from scientific articles, literary pieces and poetry to newspapers’ and online articles. Empowered with creative thinking and problems solving skills, our student travels along with digits and numbers and their basic operations upward towards advanced and complicated ones. Our curriculum satisfies the natural mental development of each student, challenges the above average mental abilities to excel, and provides remedies for below average ones. It demonstrates a scope and sequence of skills that meet both national and international standards.
